About Technology

The Technology function provides IT services to the International business globally. These include the development and support of business applications that underpin our revenue, operational, compliance, finance and customer service functions. The broader organisation incorporates Infrastructure services that the firm relies on to operate on a day to day basis including data centre, networks, proximity services, security, voice, incident management and remediation.

The Technology team has been structured as virtual teams created around business verticals. The various virtual teams aligned to each business provide strategic IT direction and programme execution to support our businesses in the UK, Asia Pacific and continental Europe. The virtual team is headed by Head of Delivery in India and supported by a dedicated delivery team and various other teams e.g. Enterprise Architecture and Technology Infrastructure Services.

Purpose of your role

The Associate Director of UNIX & Middleware is responsible for the functional and people management of the AIS Digital, Web, Middleware Infrastructure and the UNIX platform teams in India. The successful candidate will have a joint responsibility for engineering, project delivery and operational service for key Digital, Web, Middleware and Platform (UNIX) technologies. This includes the Digital Security suite of products, Web & Application Containers, Application Performance Management, Integration Technologies, Workload Automation, BPM, Informatica layers and core UNIX platform products RHEL, AIX, Solaris and VM Ware.

Your key accountabilities

Ownership of UNIX & Middleware Infrastructure platform functions and part of global middleware management team.
Functional responsibility of Strategic, Project and Service Delivery of all middleware technologies.
Accountable for the deliveries of the Middleware & UNIX (RTB and CTB) functions in India.
Establish local function as a strategy hub in the Global Infrastructure team.
Establish engineering practice in India.
Effective communication and collaboration with the Global Infrastructure Services organisation.
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to local team managers and members
Ensure service as per the service management guidelines and SLAs.
Ensure delivery in a timely, efficient and cost effective manner.
Stakeholder management across various Technology and Business teams.
Building strong relationships and be seen as a trusted advisor to the accountable executives
Actively promote a culture of continuous improvement across all delivery disciplines to improve overall delivery through their own behaviour and promotion of appropriate tools and techniques
High level project reporting to the relevant governance forums including progress against milestones, budget, risks and issues.
Develop and maintain a good working relationship with senior leadership
Ensures that technical solutions are fit for purpose, including for functional, non-functional and support requirements.
Has detailed over sight and understanding of the proposed solutions and plans so as to influence strategic direction and adherence to process and controls.
Have in depth conceptual understanding of both Core Infrastructure (OS, Compute and Storage) and Application layer (Middleware technologies, Database technologies) and experience managing these areas in the past.
Champion the Cloud first strategy to enable moving services onto external cloud

Your skills and experience

15+ years of experience in the Industry with varied experience.
Exception track record as an Infrastructure Services Leader having experience in platform and application layers.
Exceptional relevant domain knowledge of at least two of the following in each space.
Middleware - Web Infrastructure, Workload Automation, BPM & ETL
Platform Experience in different UNIX flavours (RedHat 6/7, AIX 6/7), Core Infrastructure, Automation (Ansible/Puppet), Scripting (Shell/Bash, Python/Perl), Virtualisation (VMWare) & IAAS.
Already an existing exceptional senior technology manager with an extreme focus on providing great customer service.
Good track record of managing and delivering strategic solutions and incremental improvements.
Active adopter of Cloud offerings (Hybrid/Public) and experience in delivering to customers. (IAAS, PAAS)
Attention to detail with a structured, agile, solution-orientated approach to problems.
Self-starter, team-player, and requiring minimum oversight and guidance. A Can Do attitude with high levels of resilience in high pressure situations.
Excellent communication/presentation skills to present to/liaise with all levels of stakeholders.
Extensive knowledge of linked domains e.g. Operating Systems, Application Servers, Middleware, Storage and Backup technologies.
Good academic record and ability to display external focus and thorough knowledge of the industry and competition.
Experience of leading geographically & culturally diverse teams.
Experience of driving change in a global organisation
Strong customer awareness and business focus
Promote teamwork and demonstrate best practices on delivery of service, both internally and externally
